There is a lot of comparsion charts in the Internet. I am not going to copy & paste any of those. What I did is just a small performance test for both. New Nexus 7 vs the old one. Just to check how does both perform in real life (not math benchmarks) I did a simple test. Compared a boot time of both. The difference seems to quite impressive! Check the video to see it by yourself.

There is no Nexus 7 from 2014, and likely won’t be – the Nexus 8 is expected for this year.
That is the 2013 version.
